    This is the solution to the fermi paradox: why the universe is otherwise apparently devoid of intelligent life. Every planet with intelligent life on it develops conservatism and every planet with conservatives on it invariably destroys itself through some form of stupidity. eg. Nuclear war, global ecosystem collapse etc.

        The true horror is that life is constantly on a knife’s edge. Life requires enough energy for chemistry, but not so much energy that complex molecules wiggle apart or get blasted apart. Any drastic change results in death.

        Good thing we’re not making any drastic changes to our environment, eh?
