I keep it plugged into a crockpot 24/7, and temp it every time I go out to check it.
We do a lot of canning and preserving of food, here-- so I haven’t noticed any big cost differential… we always have something on.

Just going to add to this: with today’s modern conveniences, have an instant read food thermometer around, and be sure to use it.
Temperature Danger Zone is between 40F and 140F
Due to mixing everything together, your minimum internal temperature should be at 165F.
For safety and CYA purposes, again, you want it between 180F and 200F. :)

The answer is crockpots. But I want to point out that you want it between 180-200F, so simmering as opposed to boiling.
