      Do you run a desktop environment as opposed to servers with server class hardware?

          LTS means long term support, that means you still get fixes for the LTS period. No, you don't get the latest and greatest, but you do get software that works with hardware for a long period. You use what works for your use case, which is the whole point of all of this.

              Backports can still be found for some things on more recent LTS distros. But you do you.
