DS9 was one of the best additions to Star Trek. I rewatched the entire series during covid and I think it saved my sanity.

It’s such a nice view of what we could be!

I’ve also grown tired of every show having to be dark and gritty.

Star Trek has aged surprisingly well and it’s so comforting to watch.

      Same.

I’ve also heard it described as competence porn. Sure, characters / species are flawed and mistakes are made, but it’s often with a purpose and meaning. And you often see individuals working together, checking in with each other, apologies, acknowledgement / recognition of impact and good deeds and other ways of life (especially when other characters aren’t believed or understood at first), respect , tolerance, parenting, working towards personal growth, reflection, social justice. Complex issues handled with care and compassion. The pace of the shows always seemed determined by the clarity- no rushing. Usually there’s a resolution, or acknowledging the lack of one (that may be satisfying).

I haven’t seen a lot of the new Trek but the older stuff did all this quite well. Combined with soothing ambient space ship noise and decent midi music…. So good for mental health.

Leading from the front. Science fiction is science future and the Star Trek future is one I’m on board with!
